INDIAN LAND, S.C. — The Lancaster Bruins may have got the last laugh, but the Indian Land Warriors got the series win.
Indian Land High School’s baseball team won two of three games against the Bruins this week, despite Lancaster High winning game three, 5-2, in the series Thursday, April 18, at Indian Land High.
In game three, Lancaster scored two runs early in the first inning and added a third run in the second inning to go up 3-0.
Parker McGee opened the game with a double and Jeremy Dawkins singled. McGee scored on a passed ball and pinch runner Mitchell Lowery scored on a sacrifice fly by Tony Shannon.
Landon Carter scored for the Bruins in the second inning after a double to open the inning, giving Lancaster the 3-0 lead.
Indian Land scored a run in both the second and third innings to get back in the game as James Knoll’s RBI single and a Lancaster error put the score at 3-2.
Lancaster added runs in the sixth and seventh innings and held off the Warriors late in the game.
No Lancaster player got more than one hit as both Shannon and Dawkins had RBIs for the Bruins.
Conor Grossman led Indian Land at the plate, going 2-3 in Thursday’s game.
In Wednesday’s game, Indian Land beat Lancaster, 3-0, with Michael Doan pitching a complete game three-hitter against the Bruins.
Doan didn’t walk anyone and struck out five in the game. He aided his cause with an RBI triple in the top of the first inning to score Grossman, who singled earlier in the inning, as Indian Land jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Warriors had seven hits in the game, while Alex Blanchette went 2-3 with an RBI and Cole Dombkowski also had an RBI in the game.
In the fifth inning, Cooper Armstrong walked and was driven in by Blanchette.
Lancaster’s Eli Sistare took the loss, going the distance and allowing three runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking three out.
In Monday’s game, Indian Land came storming back in the seventh inning, scoring eight runs to rally from being down 8-1 to snatch a 9-8 win over the Bruins.
Cole Gutmann singled to drive in Doan on a walk-off hit with two outs in the inning, giving Indian Land the win.
Blanchette, Emerson Rhodes and Dombkowski all had two hits in the win for Indian Land. Blanchette and Gutmann each had two RBIs.
Boyd got the win on the mound, pitching the seventh inning and allowing a hit, while striking out one.
Dawkins went 2-4 in the game with five RBIs to lead Lancaster in the losing effort.
Indian Land is now 15-9 overall on the season and Lancaster is 13-7-2 overall.
