LANCASTER, S.C. — Julia Ann White “Mrs. J” Whitaker went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
She was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Lancaster, daughter of the late William B. White and the late Mary Caskey White. She was the loving wife of the late Charles Bobby Whitaker.
Mrs. Whitaker enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. She was a selfless lady who loved helping others and making sure everyone was taken care of. Mrs. Whitaker was very family-oriented and always made sure they had what they needed.
Mrs. Whitaker was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She served on many committees, such as the greeting committee, sewing and quilting committee, Meals on Wheels committee, and many others throughout her membership. She was a past Sunday school teacher for many years and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Whitaker put the Lord first in her life, and the Lord shined through her.
Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her three sons, Charlie E. Whitaker, Greg D. Whitaker (Karen) and Jeff A. Whitaker; four grandchildren, Robert Whitaker (Tabitha), Whitney Burke (Dawson), Justin Whitaker (Mackenzie) and Jordan Whitaker (Jenson); nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Raegan, Bailey, Anslee, Aubrey, Aspen, Aiden, Adeline and Rowen Whitaker; her brother, Donald “Don” White; special friend, Frances Clifton; and many special family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Whitaker; her two grandsons, Steve Whitaker and Brandon Whitaker; her great-grandson, Anson Whitaker; her parents, William and Mary White; three brothers, Thomas White, Marion White and William “Bill” White; and her sister, Elizabeth “Lib” Barr.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mrs. Whitaker will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Patrick Blackmon and Pastor Zach Byrd. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., two hours prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Capital Improvement Fund, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
