LANCASTER, S.C. — The Indian Land Lady Warriors softball team edged county rival Buford Yellow Jackets in a pitchers dual on the diamond.
Indian Land beat Buford, 2-1, as the two teams combined for just 11 hits.
Of the 11 combined hits, only Buford’s Mallory Adams had multiple hits going 2-3 and driving in the Yellow Jackets only run in the fifth inning.
Indian Land struck first in the game in the fourth inning as Amelia White doubled to open the inning. A sacrifice bunt got her to third and she would score on a sacrifice fly from Riley Murphy to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Buford rallied to tie the game in the fifth inning. Ava Vincent singled to start things happening for the Yellow Jackets. Three more hits — all singles from Addison Belk, Emma Timmons and Adams — drove in Belk to tie the game.
The four-hit inning was the best Buford could do in getting a run as Vincent got caught trying to steal second for the inning’s second out.
In the top of the seventh, Indian Land’s Ava Williams singled, driving in the game-winning run to score courtesy runner Emily Harnisth.
The Warriors’ Olivia Miller pitched a complete game, allowing one run on six hits, while striking out five without allowing a walk.
Laney Allen got the loss for Buford, but also pitched well, allowing just two runs on five hits, while striking out five without surrendering a walk.
Indian Land improved to 15-5 overall on the season, while Buford dropped to 6-4.
